As a first thought I may repeat the wheel's discussion.

Speaking only for myself I'm willing to build *our wheel* which is the wheel the group of contributers need.
I'm willing to make suggestions on that.
While building our wheel we may release different intermediate versions and a couple of stable versions until *our* wheel is working the way we like it.
*Then* we may think of others asking for stuff.

There is a horrible lot to do that might be of value for all of us and others. It's not important where we start. But you are right, it must be agreed on.

Going a community way I'm thinking *contributers first*. There are no customers, just folks spending time or effort in return for the code and others taking the code without return. The latter make *second class request* to my understanding

Sounds hard-hearted? - Well there is lot to do, why not start for the contributers first?

These folks should agree on where to start and what steps to take first.

BTW:
I'd love to state this clearly in a community project.
*Our wheel* for the community.
Others may use it for free and may make suggestions.

*Requests* accepted only from people willing to take some part of the burdon.

All this said thinking about the amount of work which needs to be done.
