Tetra-WebBBS Support Forum
The email i received this morning (names masked by Tarty):
Permit me a few words about the "project" you all are discussing on your board:
I'd support your developing in any way I could. But (as you have seen
) I'm an "amateur" WebAdmin running Webbs boards with no particular skills in anything needed on this matter. Anyway, if someone thinks that I could contribute in ANY way with something ... count me in.
A little story that maybe helps to motivate you all a little bit:
About 8-9 years ago a US-company (----web.com) run a "---- Rules" Forum on their site. It was in the threaded format (as I remember Matt's script) and was very crowded by people all over the world. In fact it was "THE" ---- Forum on the net.
An their income from publicity on the site became very big. So CBS (the US tv company) bought the site. And as you know how it works in those big companies, on the 157th floor were decided to change the Forum software to another format
(something like all the new php Forums). A lot of protesting from all the contributors didnt help: they believed that they were big and known enough to force the people to the new format. But the format wasn't (and still isn't) good for discussions on the matter "Rules of ----" (and I believe it isn't good for some other subjects either) and all contributors disliked it.
After some other try I "opened" just for fun a "treated WEBBBs" Forum on my business site and WITHOUT any publicity on the CBS Forums (they obviously deleted messages referring to other forums) slowly all the people dropped in to my little unknown Forum.
So, after some months "-----society.com" was born and today it is the main "---- Rules" discussing site in the world and the CBS Forums (like some others who obviously tried to "jump in") are nearly death since years.
And I have to say that it was only the Webbs threaded format to make this happen. I'm still not running any banner or sponsors on the site, just because I still want to play a little bit with it. But some very big offers for the url coming from big companies are demonstrating to me that the simple idea of a right software could bring you to a big success.
After the sad story with Webbs 6.0 I was in search for a new software in the same format, just because even if users are happy with the main features, you must still change or add features from time to time to make them show that you're not an old big farth sitting in your chair doing nothing. You know what I mean. (and the DB thing hurts our software either - I think Webbs has a big part on the 5th HD crash two days ago in the last 8 months.
I was in search for a new software and the only one I found across the IT which works in the threaded format is DCForum (http://www.dcscripts.com/dcforum.shtml) - but (apart the cost) its programmed by one guy who seems to have no more time either. Anyway, if you guys don't go ahead with Webbs I think I'd be forced to jump on that software ... maybe just a little bit less death.
