: Well, you know I did try a complete rewrite from scratch two
: years ago where I had a lot of time.
: Nobody ever joined and due to private circumstances I was
: forced to make it very low priority.
: The next point: We could have started a fresh project all the
: time, why didn't we do it?
I must admit that the thought had crossed my mind, but I never got that much ambition.
: Plus: even if we would decide to start from scratch why now
: where most of us don't have time for a new project.
: With all your mods in the system it will take a long time to
: catch up with a new script written from scratch.
: Opposed to these: If we start from existing
: WebBBS-Tarty-moded-version to turn things over step by
: step we'll always have running code and don't *loose*
: features. They may be old code but not *lost*.
: Plus: there are still lot's of old boards out there, all
: their creditlinks pointing to our project
To AWSD.com to be more precise, although Darryl did say that he was willing to host links to other versions.
: I must admit I don't know if all this works. It's a new
: attempt to an old problem

As I understand the license agreement that is being proposed there will be nothing to stop anyone from making a mod here and there and marketing their version as WebBBS 5.32 or 6.27 or...
In fact Kevin could still come along and release (I know "Kevin release" is an oxymoron) his version.
