Tetra-WebBBS Support Forum
: Hi Cindy.
: There are a lot of features to help keep of unwanted posts.
: The entire documention is online:
: All variables are listed and explained in detail on variables
: board:
: You should take a closer look at the new settings.pl file, it's
: sections and you should lookup variables which are new to you.
: The rule of thumb is:
: Hide your forms. Setup intelligent filtering. Allow registered
: users to bypass the filter. NEVER reject posts with ANY comment
: stating someone is banned. Our friends are not stupid, they will
: adopt their behaviour. Instead catch in moderated bin and
: delete, or use the other features.
: Unfortunately you'll have to find out yourself. It is possible to
: run an open forum (without registration). But it makes no sense
: to publich any detailed recipes because it would quickly help
: our friends as well, which we don't want to.
: Lookup variables step by step. Think about them. Then you'll find a
: solution.
: BTW:
: All documention is online on this site.
: If you prefer a take-home version, then this might be an option:
: Cheers
: Rainer
I'm not sure you understood my posting. Since I had inquired about the $CensorPosts variable, obviously I've been to the variables list which believe it or not, sometimes is not helpful. Just to reiterate, I was looking for info on the censoring. Yes, I've looked at the settings file. Again, just to see $CensorPosts listed tells me nothing about using it, how to use it. I needed to know where to go to enter the censored words. Like I said, I stumbled on it eventually after I had given up but I still would like to know where in the documentation it's covered.
I've gone through every page and variable for this board, but when you need to go back to find something, I don't remember where I saw something a couple days before. An index on every variable and subject would be helpful - it doesn't hurt to have a site that's user friendly. I still refer to Darryl's doc. txt as all you needed to know was in one document and you didn't have to open link after link, page after page to search for something. I wasted over 90 minutes looking for info on this censoring and never did find it. Maybe I missed it, maybe not. A lot of items in Darryl's document is still is in the new version and he gave complete directions on how to implement everything.
I've had my message board for many years, so I know what works and doesn't work regarding spamming but perhaps your advice will help others. I have to decide whether I want valid postings held for 12 hours if I have the board moderated or else have fans read spam postings which is a big turn off for them. Registered users, passwords, profiles, all that, is not something which would work well at my site.
