Re: Refresh Problem
In Response To: Re: Refresh Problem ()

Rainer,

I did some 'testing' this morning to try and explain what I see.

<Bulletin Board> means clicking on the menu bar link for Bulletin Board
Refresh means clicking on the browser (IE8) 'refresh' button

BULLETIN BOARD

What I observed:

I logged on this morning (12-11-10) to the bulletin board, http://www.connyak.org/cgi-bin/BBS.pl/
‘Welcome Back’ message:
Since your last visit began, 1 new message has been posted
(Your last visit began 12/9/2010, 8:59 pm)

Refresh
Since your last visit began, 2 new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/10/2010, 6:23 am)

And now I can see the two new messages.
<Classified Ads>
Since your last visit began, no new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/9/2010, 5:08 pm)

Refresh
Since your last visit began, no new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/10/2010, 6:24 am)

<Bulletin Board>
Since your last visit began, 1 new message has been posted
(Your last visit began 12/9/2010, 8:59 pm)

Refresh
Since your last visit began, 2 new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/10/2010, 6:23 am)

What I expected to happen:
When I logged onto the BB this morning I expected that it would immediately show me if any new messages had been posted since my last visit, e.g. I expected to see,
Since your last visit began, 2 new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/10/2010, 6:23 am)

And, after visiting the “Classified Ads” board and returning to the “Bulletin Board” I would have expected it to be current instead of reverting to the previous ‘ 1 new message’.

This morning I also posted a message on the BB about 9:00am. When I logged onto the BB this evening the welcome message was
Since your last visit began, 1 new message has been posted
(Your last visit began 12/11/2010, 7:07 am)

The message that was shown as new was the one that I had posted.
Refresh
Since your last visit began, 2 new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/11/2010, 9:29 am)

And now I saw that someone had posted a response to my message.

BULLETIN BOARD ADMIN

The response to logging in to the Bulletin Board Admin
Since your last visit began, 8 new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/5/2010, 9:11 am)

A test message appears for 12-8-10 that I had posted and then deleted. Clicking on this message, the screen opens saying message not available. Clicking on “Return to Index”
Since your last visit began, 10 new messages have been posted
(Your last visit began 12/8/2010, 9:28 pm)

And now the test message does not appear on the message list.

What I expected to happen:
I shouldn’t have seen the ‘test message’ in the listing since I had deleted it.

EVENT CALENDAR

The “Events Calendar” is an html page on the website. It has a refresh problem as well.

The response to logging in to the Events Calendar
Briefly, here is the reponse
I add an event to the calendar for Dec 16 and upload the new html page to the server.
I open the site www.connyak.org , click <Events Calendar>
Calendar does not show the event on Dec 16
Click on a link to one of the events on the calendar, click on browser back button. Dec 16 event still not shown.
Refresh
Now the Dec 16 event appears.
Exit IE and upload a changed html page with Dec 16 event deleted
Log onto website, <Events calendar>, Dec 16 event still on calendar
Click on one Event and then click on browser back button. Dec 16 event still on calendar.
Log onto Events calendar directly http://www.connyak.org/Yakevents.htm the Dec 16 event still on calendar
Click on one Event and then click on browser back button. Dec 16 event still on calendar.
Refresh
Dec 16 event is gone.

What I expected to happen:
When I open the Events Calendar page I expect it to be the current page. I did not think I would need to click on the browser refresh button.

This same type of response shows up on the Commercial Ad bulletin board as well. For example, someone submits a Commercial Ad, I review and post it. The next day they send me an email saying that they could not see their ad. After telling them to use their Refresh button then they see the ad.

Hope this makes some sense.
Brian
