: It's only IE. It does accept cookies, but only as a session cookie.
: That's definitely related to IE configuration.
IE 8, by default, is set to accept first-party and 3rd party cookies.
: Unfortunately cookies are considered bad by default and only accept
: for a session. Users must explitely set the browser to accept
: permanent cookies from your site.
Unless I'm misunderstanding you, I don't see this in IE 8 - see above. A person would have to change IE's default settings to only accept session cookies. Also, I've never known a browser to not accept future cookies from a website that you've previously deleted the cookie from. I just tested that on 4 random websites, and each one gave me a new cookie. I couldn't find a setting to enable the behavior you mention in either IE or Firefox.
:Seems links on your site are not consistent.
:The link you provided in your initial post was a "www.yourdomain...." sort of link.
:Some links on your site seem to point to "yourdomain...". Such things create
:two cookies and depending on bookmarks or the path users take to get to
:your board(s) they'll end up with either of two cookies or no cookie.
I found what you are talking about. The html code for the message board link was http://www.livingstonitown.com/message. If you clicked the link it sent you to http://livingstonitown.com/message/ (without the "www"). I spent quite some time trying to figure that one out. I finally found that if I added the /index.cgi to the end of the link, that it would resolve correctly to http://www.livingstonitown.com/message/index.cgi. Strange one to me.
I corrected the code, had quite a few people try using the updated link, but with the same poor results of not saving their settings and profile name. BUT, when I tried it with IE8 (which previously wouldn't save my profile name) it did in fact save it this time.
One last thing. when I upgrade to Tetra WebBBS, I will be able to just copy the current WebBBS profiles to the new profile directory in the new instalation, correct?
Thanks again, Rainer!
